Have questions? Here are answers to the ones we hear most often.
What is pelvic floor therapy?
Your pelvic floor is the group of muscles at the bottom of your pelvis. No matter your gender, there are roughly 28 pelvic floor muscles (14 each side!). This means both women and men can benefit from pelvic floor therapy! Just like you don’t have to play in the NFL to have a knee problem, anyone can have a pelvic floor problem! Pelvic floor therapy is simply the process of assessing and treating the pelvic floor muscles whether they be weak, tight, loose, or dysfunctional in any way!
Why Stellar Pelvic Health?
Here at Stellar Pelvic Health, we have 1-on-1 hour long appointments so you are not rushed and your provider can really understand what’s going on to make the best plan for YOU. Dr. Sadler is a highly experienced and trained clinician who has the skills to get you back to the life you want!
Who can get Pelvic Floor Therapy? (Is it just for women who have had kids?)
Anyone and everyone deserves pelvic floor therapy! Everyone has a pelvic floor and can have pelvic floor problems regardless of age, gender, or parenthood.
Fun facts!
- On average, about 50% of adolescent female athletes leak urine with their sport!
- On average, about 20% of adult men have pelvic floor problems!
Women with kids, women with no kids, children, teenagers, and men, quite literally anyone with a pelvis could need pelvic floor therapy. And we treat it all at Stellar Pelvic Health!
Do you take insurance?
No we don’t! But we do take HSA/FSA cards! Unfortunately, because insurance companies don’t reimburse enough to support a single-clinician, standalone clinic with 1-on-1 appointments, Stellar Pelvic Health is cash based. This allows us to really focus on what you need, not what insurance companies tell us we are allowed to do.
Before you panic! This doesn’t mean that you can’t still use your insurance! Here at Stellar Pelvic Health, we provide you with what’s called a “Superbill” which is a document that you can send to your insurance company so that they can reimburse YOU.
How do I get my insurance to pay for it?
The best plan of action is to call your insurance company and ask the following questions:
- Specifically ask, “What are my out of network physical therapy benefits?” (Do not say “pelvic floor therapy,” insurance companies do not separate regular physical therapy from pelvic floor therapy).
- “Do I have an out of network deductible that I need to meet first?”
- “Does my plan cover the physical therapy codes:
- 97162 - Physical Therapy Moderate Complexity Initial Evaluation
- 97110 – Therapeutic Exercise
- 97112 – Neuromuscular Re-Education
- 97140 – Manual Therapy
- 97530 – Therapeutic Activities
- 97116 – Gait Training
- 97535 - Self-care/Home Management Training”
- “Do I need a referral from my doctor to submit?”
- “Do I need to submit the clinic notes, or will the superbill be enough?”
- “How exactly do I submit a superbill for reimbursement?”
Do I need a referral from my doctor to come to Stellar Pelvic Health?
No! You can self schedule your appointment for whenever is convenient for you! However it’s important to note that your insurance company may require a referral for reimbursement, but that is separate from your ability to be treated in office.
What problems do you treat?
See our “Conditions We Treat” page!
What if I’m on my period?
No worries! Please come to your appointment, being on your menstrual cycle does not prevent your progression of care! Nothing will happen that you do not consent to, and your session can always be modified to accommodate your needs!
Can I bring my children to my appointment?
Yes! Please keep in mind that this is a medical clinic and there is heavy duty equipment as well as expensive equipment in the space. Please bring anything you can to occupy your child as best as possible, a TV is available for your child to watch in clinic if you are comfortable with that. I love kids! I have 3! But if you bring your child, be prepared for possible interruptions. If you are concerned for any reason, telehealth visits are available!
What happens at my first visit?
Lots of talking for one! We will review your intake paperwork, discuss your history, and discuss your individualized treatment plan.
Light physical assessment, so wear comfortable clothing! Dress like you’re going to the gym to work out. Expect things such as hip range of motion testing, pelvic and spine alignment testing, and breathing mechanics assessment.
NOTHING HAPPENS WITHOUT YOUR CONSENT! Anything that I may need to assess will be explained prior to the assessment. You may always decline anything that is offered.
